Diamonds and Carats

A diamond’s weight is measured in ‘carats’.

The carat decides most of its value so the deeper proportioned stones will be of greater and cost and value whereas the shallow shaped stones will therefore be off less value and quite usually will be seen as appropriate for further use once set in a piece of jewelry.

The information on each diamond’s certificate on sale will also showcase the diameter and it is then possible to double check the gem you are considering buying as some difference may happen here. The standard diameter for a one carat diamond is 6.5 millimeters.
Here are various ways to express One Carat:

  • 200 milligrams
  • 1 ct.
  • 1/5 gram
  • 0.20 grams
  • 100 points
  • 4 grainer (not used in retail)
